A genius sorcerer from the Principality of Paltierre, which once existed in the northeast of the continent. Psoron created Fire Storm, the most widely used offensive magic spell, and Guard Reinforce, one of the most basic defensive magic spells. He was the court sorcerer for the king of Paltierre. After creating these two magic spells to fight the undead, he disappeared. More than half the magic spells in existence would not have been, were it not for the creation of Psoron's two basic spells.
Psoron is wholly focussed on his research and appalled by the fact that no significant progress seems to have been made since his time. He is therefore eager to resume his research, since no one else seems fit to do it. However, he also realizes that the theories underlying his spells were correct and is happy to have been reborn to witness this. He also states that, as one lifetime is too short to attain any significant amount of knowledge, he can understand why some would wish to become undead. Since humans have discovered the way to become undead, he also believes there must be a way to become a god. He also feels that a human would not be able to bear the burden of eternal life: the gods and the undead have means to stop time and thus, both bodily and psychological decay, while humans would not be able to prevent it.
Psoron is more focused on attack, taking a while to learn his support spells, which puts him at a disadvantage. He is a decent Sorcerer, but not exactly unique. He will join the party with a Lotus Wand and an Anointed Cloak. His initial skill is Mental Boost.

A staff in Surts Volcano Caverns, found one room down and to the right from the save point. Psoron has a 40% chance of appearing. Farant is the other possible option. Psoron will ask "How long has it been? How is my research?" when you materialize him.
When you are about to release him, Psoron will say "It feels so sudden. Am I at last ready for freedom?" If you then choose to release him, he will say "Now I can finish my research uninterrupted."
Upon being released, Psoron will appear at the entrance of the Turgen Mine. He will give you an Overdrive if you go see him during Chapter 5 or 6.
Since Psoron's story is self-contained, he has no battle conversations with any other Einherjar.
Psoron could be related to the Greek word ψώρα (psora), which means "itch" or, by extension, "constant irritating desire" . This could be a reference to Psoron's thirst for knowledge.
His Japanese name could be related to the word sōron (argument, dispute, controversy) , which would also be appropriate for a researcher. Alternatively, considering the interchangeability of the letters "r" and "l" in Japanese, the name could refer to Solon , a Greek legislator commonly seen as the founder of Athenian democracy, just as Psoron was, essentially, one of the founders of magic.
- Psoron has the same voice actor as Farant, Aaron, Dyn and Zunde. Thus, they share most of their battle quotes.
- Psoron's in-game model has a much longer cloak than his character art.
