Millia is a minor character from Valkyrie Profile. She is Llewelyn's fiancée and is left devastated by his death.

Storyline[]

Millia is a young woman from Crell Monferaigne, in a relationship with Llewelyn. Eventually, the kingdom decides to wage a war, and Llewelyn is drafted into the army, specifically for a naval battle. Concerned that he might die in combat, Millia's parents urge her to break off the relationship, but she is reluctant to do so. Meeting Llewelyn in a grove on the city's outskirts, she informs him of the situation. He suggests that her parents may be right, but she refuses this suggestion and tells him that she will wait for him. Having previously remarked that the wind in the trees sounded like the sea, she says that it will remind her of him while he is away. He promises to stay safe and tells her that they will marry when he returns.

However, Llewelyn dies at sea and is recruited as an Einherjar by Lenneth, while an empty coffin is sent back to Crell Monferaigne for a burial ceremony. Millia's parents want to arrange a profitable marriage for her, but she refuses. She visits the grove once again to feel closer to Llewelyn's spirit, but since he died at sea, the wind in the trees now distresses her. Lenneth witnesses her grief and tells Llewelyn that he should comfort her, as she has ceased to live herself since his death. She allows him to appear to her, whereupon he embraces her and says that he will always watch over her.

If Lenneth returns to the grove after recruiting Llewelyn, she will find Millia's necklace (a Goddess Pendant) lying on the ground. She tells Llewelyn that it is made of lotus flowers and is worn by women who pray for the protection of their loved ones.

Etymology[]

Millia may be derived from Amelia, a common female name derived from the Germanic root amal (bravery) [1]. This could refer to her courage in standing up to her parents.

The Japanese version of her name could be a variation on Miriam, a Hebrew name of disputed origin, but with potential meanings such as "bitter", "rebellious" or "beloved" [2], all of which would be appropriate in Millia's case.

Trivia[]

  • Millia may be encountered in her house in Crell Monferaigne whenever Lenneth visits the city.
  • According to the developers, the main problem with Millia's and Llewelyn's relationship was their difference in social status. Millia's family was wealthy, while Llewelyn was a commoner, which is why they never accepted the couple[3].
