Fahn is a minor character from Valkyrie Profile. A captain of the Crell Monferaigne army, he takes a liking to Jayle and, discovering her secret, decides to help her in her cause.

Storyline[]

Fahn became Jayle's captain when she enrolled into the Crell Monferaigne knight corps. He noticed that there was something odd about her, but dismissed his concerns because she was a skilled combatant. Nevertheless, he eventually discovered that she was a woman, although it is never explained how. She begged him to keep it a secret, and he agreed, provided she told him her real name and her reason for joining the knights: to get revenge on Magnus, the court sorcerer, as he was responsible for her parents' death. Fahn agreed to help her in her cause, and they eventually fell in love, although Jayle was concerned that her plan for revenge made it seem as though she was using him solely to attain her goal.

Fahn's scheme to overthrow Magnus involved thinning out the ranks of his supporters over time and waiting for an opportune occasion to strike. This tried Jayle's patience, and the rumours of Magnus' involvement with a demon worried her, but Fahn assured her that they would bring him down.

Eventually, a chance presented itself: Magnus was due to bless the Crell Monferaigne troops before a battle, and Fahn deemed it the right moment to strike. However, as his small group of knights faced the sorcerer, the latter summoned Genevieve, a powerful undead. She cast a bewitchment spell, which made all the knight fall unconscious, except Jayle, because she was a woman. Magnus believed that this was part of Fahn's plan, but Genevieve, possibly sensing Jayle's own apprehensions, taunted her about the fact that she had been using Fahn and his men to attain her own ends. At this point, Lenneth intervened, drawn by the Genevieve's presence. After being defeated, Genevieve vanished, but not before telling Lenneth that she should pay more attention to her surroundings. Still entranced by the bewitchment spell, but no longer unconscious, Fahn had stabbed Jayle. As Genevieve disappeared, the spell faded, and he was horrified by what he had done. Relieved to see that he had regained his senses, Jayle attempted to declare her feelings for him, but succumbed to her injury and was recruited as an Einherjar by Lenneth, leaving an infuriated Fahn to deal with Magnus as he saw fit. Nothing further is known of his fate.

Etymology[]

Fahn may derive from Fahne, the German word for a flag, a banner or an ideal[1], all of which could refer to the fact that he considers defeating Magnus as a cause worth fighting for.

Trivia[]

Fahn and Jayle can be encountered in the tavern in Crell Monferaigne, investigating the assault on Janus, if you visit the city before recruiting Jayle.
